Acorn TV’s British Programming

Acorn British Television

For a mere $4.99 a month, you can watch British programs on your laptop, iPad, phone, your Smart TV, your Apple TV … you get it.

AcornTV.com offers their content on almost every platform one can think of. It’s primary content are of course British television shows and movies.  But since they have a Foreign Language section, you can also find a few Italian, Dutch, Spanish, or Scandinavian productions. Admittedly,  a very small section – perhaps even small enough to work through within the 7-day free trial.

On the non-European front, Acorn includes Canadian, Mexican and Australian shows.

Some of Acorn’s content is of course also available on Netflix, Hulu or any other streaming service.  However, Acorn has it all in one place, and includes a lot of British programming not available on other  streaming services. This may be particularly interesting for lovers of British documentaries or travel shows.  And of course, there’s plenty of Agatha Christie.

If you already have an Amazon account and want to keep everything in one place, you can rent Acorn from within your Amazon account.

Interestingly, Acorn Media Group has actually been around in the U.S. since 1994.  At first, they sold British programming on VHS, later DVD and Blu-Ray. In 2013, they started to offer direct streaming services.

From 2011 until 2013, Acorn TV was part of Acornonline.com, a site that still today sells British shows on DVD. Additionally, it features a truly random assortment of trinkets, shirts, household items and jewelry.
